Primary Purpose

The Principal Rotating Equipment Engineer will provide technical assurance leadership for the design, start-up, and on-going support on, liquefaction and other renewable projects developed by Sempra Infrastructure, leadership, and support the detailed design phases of the EPC Contractor.

The Principal Rotating Equipment Engineer will be responsible for the more complex rotating equipment packages associated with high drive powers, gas turbine driven, multiple train components and associated auxiliary support packages, string tests and resolving technical issues.

The Principal Rotating Equipment Engineer:

- Reviews EPC Contractor deliverables and makes recommendations to ensure the designs are safe, fit-for-purpose and meet industry codes and project specifications (including API, ASME, ANSI, PIP).

- Supports conceptual studies to increase reliability, operability, production capacity and process safety during the Operate Phase.

- Manages the other rotating engineers and Mechanical Engineering disciplines.

- Aids in the development of predictive maintenance planning for the rotating equipment kits and Turnaround Planning.

- Provide technical support for the Maintenance Dept of PALNG post-commissioning and startup.

Work activities include audit and assurance of EPC's design to Project contractual obligations and specifications through coordination with EPC counterparts and other disciplines. The industry specifications include API, ASME, ANSI, PIP and other process industry codes and standards.

The Principal Rotating Equipment Engineer will be responsible for the more complex rotating equipment packages associated with high drive powers, gas turbine driven, multiple train components and associated auxiliary support packages, string tests and issue resolving. The Principal Rotating Equipment Engineer will aid in the development of the Long-Term Service Agreements (LTSA) and be responsible for managing the technical aspects with vendors during the Operate Phase of the project.

The Principal Rotating Equipment Engineer will also assist with training of junior engineers and craft technicians.

This position will be located in Port Arthur, Texas during commissioning, startup and Operate Phase of PALNG.

Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) is required.

The Principal Rotating Equipment Engineer will assist with training of other engineers and disciplines. The Principal Rotating Equipment Engineer will be expected to follow the project to the field to assist with construction, commissioning, and start-up activities later in the project schedule.

There are multiple positions required in the Office Engineering Team, the Construction Team and the Commissioning Start-up Teams. Depending on timing roles will transition from the EPC Contractor office in Houston to Hackberry Site during the execution of the project. Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) will be required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review the design and monitor the operations of rotating equipment; gas turbines, refrigerant and process compressors, drivers, gearboxes, blowers and pumps and their associated auxiliary support systems.
  • Ensure equipment is designed and operating in a safe and reliable manner, to meet the requirements of the process, as per Project specifications.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance for all rotating equipment during the CSU and Operate Phase, including technical advice, updating Sempra standards and troubleshooting.
  • Perform the technical assurance role for vendor drawings and data, test procedures, reports and calculations during Commissiong and Start-up (CSU) throughout the Operate Phase
  • Support predictive maintenance planning for the rotating equipment kits and Turnaround Planning
  • Participates in conceptual studies and reliability studies as required and generates MOCs as needed.
  • Provide technical support for the Maintenance Dept of PALNG post-commissioning and startup.
  • Interface with E&C and EPC counterparts as well as other E&C/EPC disciplines as needed.
  • Develop the Long-Term Service Agreements (LTSA) for the major rotating equipment and be responsible for managing the technical aspects with vendors during the Operate Phase
  • Stay abreast of current Rotating Equipment developments thru participation in Industry technical shows and committees.
  • Train and manage other engineers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related science.
  • 10+ years of experience in industry related experience with large rotating machinery. This experience should include gas turbines, large process or refrigerant compressors, drivers, gearboxes, blowers and pumps and their associated auxiliary support systems and/or skid mounted packaged systems.
  • Experience and knowledge with control systems for typical compression equipment.
  • Familiarity and ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical diagrams, including flow charts, cause/effect diagrams, and Piping and Instrument Drawings (P&IDs).
  • Must have a good working knowledge of API, ASME, ANSI, PIP and other process industry codes and standards.
  • This position will have extensive E&C, EPC, and vendor interface, so communication skills must be excellent.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional and effective manner, including in-person, telephone, and E-mail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Specific knowledge in understanding the vibration as related to rotating equipment, this includes both analytical applications (lateral/torsional analysis) and diagnostics during Factory Acceptance Testing and commissioning activities.
  • Understanding of acoustic pulsation studies and pulsation issues on reciprocating equipment
  • Design and construction knowledge of NEC codes, especially as related to hazardous area applications.
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment air emission reduction concepts and applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Experience working in CSU and operating environment for large-scale LNG projects.

HYBRID: Work a combination of onsite and remote days each week, typically 3 days per week onsite.
